Baseball Game Preview: Holy Name Green Wave vs. Padua Franciscan Bruins

The Holy Name Green Wave will head out on the road to challenge the Padua Franciscan Bruins at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Holy Name was able to grind out a solid victory over Normandy, taking the game 10-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Green Wave.

Brendon Preisel tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, Nick Nemeth was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Daniel Stibley was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Padua Franciscan hadn't done well against North Royalton recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Bruins came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bears, sneaking past 4-2.

Padua Franciscan is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Name, their record is now 8-11.

Holy Name couldn't quite finish off Padua Franciscan in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Green Wave avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
