Baseball Recap: Decatur Central Finds Home Field Redemption Against Martinsville

There's no place like home for Decatur Central, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past the Martinsville Artesians 11-1 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their one-run performance the game before.

Zach Losito was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Decatur Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden 'Beez' Cravens, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Decatur Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Martinsville, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Decatur Central will face off against rival Franklin Community at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 3.7, the Grizzly Cubs 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Martinsville is set to take on their familiar foe Perry Meridian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
