Baseball Game Preview: Union Cougars vs. Richfield Wildcats

The Union Cougars will square off against the Richfield Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Union is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Judge Memorial Catholic as they made off with a 15-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Richfield made easy work of Providence Hall on Friday and carried off a 13-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Richfield got a massive performance out of Jess Curtis, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Curtis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Slate Reitz, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Richfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Union has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Richfield, their victory bumped their record up to 11-17.

Union came out on top in a nail-biter against Richfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
