While Wekiva didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They claimed a resounding 63-32 victory over the Dr. Phillips Panthers. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-16.

Wekiva's win on Thursday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makayla Bell, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 13 points in addition to five assists and four steals. What's more, Bell also posted a 75% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Tiana Washington was another key player, shooting 50% from the field en route to 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Wekiva was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Wekiva and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 29.5 points. As for Dr. Phillips, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Wekiva will challenge Altamonte Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dr. Phillips, they will square off against Timber Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
