Baseball Game Preview: Cameron Dragons vs. Valley Lumberjacks

Cameron has gone a perfect 10-0 against Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Cameron will square off against Valley at 5:00 p.m. Cameron is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Cameron will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Tucker County on Saturday. Cameron blew past Tucker County 13-6. Considering the Dragons have won three matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Wes Starcher and Hunter Evans were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Starcher struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Evans tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Starcher has become a key player for Cameron: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-2 otherwise. At bat, Starcher scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Evans scored two runs and stole three bases. That's the most runs Evans has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Cameron let Brandon Miller and Zayde Long run wild. Miller got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI, while Long scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Long a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 12-2 to Tyler.

The victory got Cameron back to even at 3-3. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Cameron took their win against Valley when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cameron since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
