Softball Game Preview: Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds vs. Calvary Christian Cougars

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds will square off against the Calvary Christian Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Newport Central Catholic's offense. They lost 18-0 to Highlands on Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds haven't had much luck with the Bluebirds recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, Calvary Christian came up short against Williamstown on Saturday, falling 24-14. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kennedy Wright was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Browning, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Newport Central Catholic now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Calvary Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Newport Central Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Calvary Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, winning 11-7. Do the Thoroughbreds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
