Football Recap: Maryvale Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Maryvale's offense. They were dealt a 58-0 defeat at the hands of the Combs Coyotes on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Coyotes are ranked 92nd).

Rodrick Green threw for 28 yards on three of eight attempts. Shawn Ward was his top target, picking up 52 receiving yards. On the ground, Isaiah Savage rushed for 39 yards.

Combs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kannin Hale, who threw for 170 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes. What's more, Hale racked up 168.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Branson Moak helped Hale out on the ground, rushing for 68 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries.

Maryvale is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. As for Combs, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Maryvale has already played their next game, a 39-26 victory against North Canyon on the 2nd. As for Combs, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 37-0 loss against Arcadia on the 3rd.
