Baseball Recap: Sterling Takes a Loss

Sterling lost against Port Neches-Groves last Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Sterling came up short against Port Neches-Groves, falling 12-2. The Rangers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sterling got a good showing from Diego Gonzalez, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, Gonzalez gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Reid Butler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Joseph Montemayor also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Sterling's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Port Neches-Groves, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-6.

Sterling wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-2 win against Nederland on the 25th. As for Port Neches-Groves, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-2 victory against Port Arthur Memorial on the 25th.
