Softball Recap: El Capitan's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

El Capitan extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 14-13 in the process. They never let the Steele Canyon Cougars get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-7 back in April.

The result came thanks to Makenna Burton's shutout, as she gave up just six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sofia Simone was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ciara Bernardini, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Steele Canyon, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 14-12-1 record. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

On Steele Canyon's side, they saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ily Barclay, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Coming up, El Capitan will venture away from home to take on Granite Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vaqueros are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Steele Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Santana at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sultans have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
