The Union Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the St. Clair Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
On Thursday, Union came up short against Hillsboro and fell 3-1. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-17.
Meanwhile, St. Clair also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Festus by a score of 3-1.
St. Clair was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Festus work for it, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 24-26, 27-25, 25-22.
Union will have to keep a close watch on Lianah McDonald and Kylee Brandt, a pair of players who had a big impact on St. Clair's prior game. McDonald had 22 digs, while Brandt had 21 digs, 12 kills, and one block. Brandt is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 19 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
St. Clair's defeat dropped their record down to 9-12-1. As for Union, their loss dropped their record down to 4-18.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's matchup: Union has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.1 aces per game. However, it's not like St. Clair struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Union's way against St. Clair in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Union made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
