Recap: Summit Christian Academy Eagles vs. Depew Hornets
The Summit Christian Academy Eagles''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Depew 64-26. Summit Christian Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Depew apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was James Logan, who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Matlock, who threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns.
Depew's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Johnson led the charge by rushing for 234 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries, while also picking up 59 receiving yards. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Depew also got a significant boost from Matthew Brown, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 121 yards.
Summit Christian Academy's loss was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Regent Prep and 12-2 Regent Prep (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 64.1% over those games). As for Depew, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Summit Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Depew will head out on the road to face off against Davenport at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Oklahoma (Davenport is ranked 41st, while Depew is ranked 32nd).
