Rockingham County is 8-2 against Atkins since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cougars will host the Camels at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.
Rockingham County's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Ben L. Smith. Considering the Cougars have won 17 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Carter Matthews made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Matthews was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate Revis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hudson Deel, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Rockingham County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .632. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben L. Smith only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Atkins earned an 8-5 win over Northeast Guilford on Tuesday.
Atkins saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nik Nelson, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Rockingham County pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Atkins, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.
Rockingham County took their win against Atkins when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 9-0 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Camels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
