Having just played yesterday, the Martinsburg Bulldogs will get right back to it and host the Saint James Saints at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Saint James took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Martinsburg, who comes in off a win.
On Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Martinsburg beat GVCS Broadfording 29-23. The 29-point effort marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Martinsburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Addyson Strovel led the charge by dropping a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tianna Sanabria, who posted eight points along with six boards and three steals.
Martinsburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Saint James was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 34-28 to GVCS Broadfording.
Martinsburg will need to focus on slowing down Tenley Mullendore, one of several Saint James players who made an impact when they last played. She had 14 points. That was a full 50% of Saint James' points, marking the third time in a row Mullendore has scored more than a third of the team's points. Renee Sullivan was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.
Martinsburg's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Saint James, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Martinsburg has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 36.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Saint James struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Martinsburg against Saint James in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 57-30 win. Will Martinsburg repeat their success, or does Saint James have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
