Basketball Recap: Deer Trail Comes Up Short

Deer Trail lost against Liberty Tree Academy back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Eagles had to suffer through a 67-16 loss at the hands of the War Eagles. The Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 57-6.

Wesley Rains continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Liberty Tree Academy, shooting 90% from the field en route to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Rains continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaydence Smith, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Deer Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Liberty Tree Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2.

Deer Trail and Liberty Tree Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Eagles see the court they'll take on Caliche at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2026. As for Liberty Tree Academy, their break will end when they face Monument Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2026.
