Basketball Game Preview: Chiefland Indians vs. Lafayette Hornets

The Chiefland Indians and the Lafayette Hornets will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played.

Chiefland is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Hawthorne on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Chiefland lost 62-38 to Hawthorne. The loss continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Hornets: they've now lost eight in a row.

Meanwhile, it may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but Lafayette ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Hamilton County, sneaking past 63-61. With that win, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.

Chiefland better focus on containing Jadarius McQuay and Tywan Williamson as the pair were huge in Lafayette's win. McQuay went 6 of 11 en route to 13 points and eight boards, while Williamson went 5 for 7 on his way to 12 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. That's the most rebounds Williamson has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Murphy, who posted 13 points.

Lafayette has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Chiefland, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.

Chiefland strolled past Lafayette in their previous matchup on January 10th by a score of 45-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chiefland since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
