Basketball Game Preview: Spruce Mountain Phoenix vs. Dirigo Cougars

The Spruce Mountain Phoenix will head out to face off against the Dirigo Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Spruce Mountain is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

On Thursday, Spruce Mountain took their matchup with ease, bagging a 66-27 win over Mountain Valley. The Phoenix have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Dirigo was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 54-53 to Valley. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 20th).

Spruce Mountain's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.5 points. As for Dirigo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Spruce Mountain beat Dirigo 46-37 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Will Spruce Mountain repeat their success, or does Dirigo have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
