Softball Recap: University Prep Panthers vs. San Leandro Pirates
University Prep and San Leandro squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but University Prep had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 4-3.
Hailey Pebley spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Leigha Wood was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
University Prep's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-12-2. As for San Leandro, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season.
University Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for San Leandro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Aptos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pirates 3.7, the Mariners 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
