Basketball Game Preview: Mountain View Mavericks vs. Centennial Patriots

The Mountain View Mavericks are taking a road trip to challenge the Centennial Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Mountain View is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since January 16, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Ridgevue out 69-67. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mavericks.

Mountain View's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Starnes, who posted 16 points. Cooper Patterson was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, Centennial faced Rocky Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. Centennial walked away with a 77-68 win over Rocky Mountain.

Centennial's win came from a few key players Mountain View will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Gabe Eddins, who went 10 of 16 en route to 24 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. Those six assists gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Tibbets, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 17 points and eight boards.

Centennial was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Centennial's record is now 12-7. As for Mountain View, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Mountain View hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.4 points per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 69.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Mountain View came up short against Centennial in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 73-68. Can Mountain View avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
