Softball Recap: Pine City Takes a Loss

Pine City had lost seven straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-13 to make it eight. They came up short against the Aitkin Gobblers, falling 18-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gobblers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in April.

Pine City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elizabeth Simon, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Kaleah Berglund also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Aitkin, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games.

On Aitkin's side, Natalie Stueven was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Stueven a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madellyn Schneider, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Pine City has already played their next game (against East Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Aitkin, they have also already played their next contest, a 19-2 win against Crosby-Ironton on the 14th.
