Basketball Recap: Centerville Elks vs. Fairmont Firebirds
The Centerville Elks lost against the Fairmont Firebirds back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Centerville fell to the Firebirds 48-42. Centerville has struggled against the Firebirds recently, as their match on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Fairmont found their leader in underclassman Kaylah Thornton, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Thornton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Clara VonHandorf was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Centerville's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Fairmont, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centerville will take on the Golden Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ponitz Career Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 578th, while the Elks are ranked 120th). As for Fairmont, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Brave at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
