Baseball Game Preview: South Eugene Axe vs. North Medford Black Tornado

The South Eugene Axe will face off against the North Medford Black Tornado at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Eugene has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since March 26.

On Saturday, South Eugene came up short against South Medford and fell 7-2.

South Eugene saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Bush, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Bryce Roberts also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Medford). They came out on top against Sheldon by a score of 11-7 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Black Tornado.

Calvin Rayburn looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Easton Curtis was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Pattersen, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.

North Medford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Eugene's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for North Medford, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

South Eugene suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to North Medford in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Axe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
