Basketball Game Preview: Triangle Math & Science Academy Tigers vs. Voyager Academy Vikings + How To Watch

Triangle Math & Science Academy hasn't had much luck against Voyager Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Tigers will be home for the holidays to greet the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Triangle Math & Science Academy has given up an average of 53.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Triangle Math & Science Academy is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since November 14th on Tuesday. They were beaten by Franklin Academy 59-30. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Tigers' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Hansen Howard, who posted seven points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Voyager Academy). They put the hurt on East Wake Academy with a sharp 84-60 victory on Friday. The Vikings pushed the score to 59-38 by the end of the third, a deficit the Eagles had little chance of recovering from.

Voyager Academy's win came from a few key players Triangle Math & Science Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carlos Green, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 24 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards he has posted since back in January. Darin Jones was another key player, going 7-for-14 on his way to 23 points.

Voyager Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points over those games. As for Triangle Math & Science Academy, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-5.

Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jailen Hawkins and Jones. Hawkins has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 16 points, 2.2 blocks, and 2.1 steals. For his part, Jones has averaged 16.8 points, 1.4 steals, and 3.4 assists.

Triangle Math & Science Academy was dealt a bruising 80-29 loss at the hands of Voyager Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2020.
