Soccer Game Preview: Doherty vs. Pueblo West

The Doherty Spartans will take on the Pueblo West Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Doherty took a five-goal defeat the last time they faced off against Liberty, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Lancers on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for Doherty as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

They hit Liberty with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from MICHAEL BERRY, MANASSE MAHUNGU, and TANNER WILLIAMS.

Meanwhile, neither Pueblo West nor Vista Ridge could gain the upper hand on Tuesday so the two teams had to settle for a 2-2 draw. The outcome might've been different if Isaiah Mata hadn't been hit with a yellow card, which no doubt limited his ability to make aggressive plays down the stretch.

With that draw, Pueblo West's record moves to 5-0-2. As for Doherty, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.

Doherty beat Pueblo West by a goal when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 1-0. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cyclones turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
