Softball Recap: Yazoo County Victorious

Yazoo County won the last time they faced Vicksburg and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Yazoo County Panthers came out on top against the Vicksburg Gators by a score of 11-8.

Anna Kiley Leal was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one triple. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Alexander, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Madison Gardner, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Yazoo County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .718. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory got Yazoo County back to even at 2-2. As for Vicksburg, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yazoo County will host Riverside at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Vicksburg, they will welcome Loyd Star at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
