Basketball Game Preview: Winthrop Ramblers vs. Maranacook Black Bears

The Winthrop Ramblers will head out to challenge the Maranacook Black Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Winthrop not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since December 15, 2025 (when they won 60-19). They blew past Boothbay 54-20. The victory continues a trend for the Ramblers in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now won eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Maranacook hadn't done well against Hall-Dale recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Black Bears took down the Bulldogs 51-34. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Black Bears' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 104th).

Maranacook's record now sits at 14-3. As for Winthrop, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Things could have been worse for Winthrop, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 42-25 loss to Maranacook in their previous meeting back in December of 2025. Can the Ramblers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
