Baseball Game Preview: Western Wayne Wildcats vs. Honesdale Hornets

Western Wayne hasn't had much luck against Honesdale recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. Western Wayne will be strutting in after a win while Honesdale will be coming in after a loss.

Last Wednesday, Western Wayne beat Holy Cross 4-1. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won three in a row.

Damian Glackin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Western Wayne is 2-1 when Glackin allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Glackin was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Ethan Lamberton was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season. Lance Maiocco was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Western Wayne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holy Cross only posted a batting average of .095.

Meanwhile, Honesdale fell victim to Old Forge and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 12-0 to the Blue Devils. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Honesdale has also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Western Wayne, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.

Western Wayne came up short against Honesdale in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-0. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
