Northbrook is 0-10 against Memorial since November of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Raiders will take on the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Northbrook has given up an average of 28.9 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northbrook is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Cypress Ridge on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Raiders came up short against the Rams, falling 35-12.
Although Northbrook took the loss, they still got scores from Samajai Barker and Andres Munoz.
Northbrook didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Trindon Silvernale and Barker. Barker got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Memorial had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They blew past the Cougars, posting a 49-21 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Cougars are ranked 696th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Memorial's win came from a few key players Northbrook will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Conrad Bennett, who rushed for 148 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 148 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kade Gulledge, who rushed for 86 yards and two scores on only five carries.
Memorial was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 260 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Memorial's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB seven times. Leading the way was Jacob Espinoza with two sacks. He has been hot recently, having also posted five or more total tackles the last three times he's played. Memorial got some further help from Isaac Richardson: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Northbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Memorial, their record is now 6-1.
Northbrook was taken down by Memorial 33-3 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
