Softball Recap: Roger Bacon Gets the Win

Roger Bacon hadn't done well against Reading recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Spartans had just enough and edged out the Blue Devils 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since May 1, 2024.

Ally Hughes and Erin Pare did most of the damage at the plate: Hughes scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Pare scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Pare a new career-high. Kenzie Schwartz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Roger Bacon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win made it two in a row for Roger Bacon and bumps their season record up to 3-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Reading, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roger Bacon will host Clark Montessori at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Reading, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Deer Park at 5:00 p.m.
