Football Recap: Coconino Victorious + How To Watch

With a playoff win on the line, Coconino rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Mesquite Wildcats by a score of 29-22. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Mesquite's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tallen Curry-Smith, who threw for 147 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 69 yards. Curry-Smith's passing game has become a key predictor of the Wildcats' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 3-5 otherwise. Another pass catcher making a difference was Andrew Joiner, who picked up 112 receiving yards and one score.

Coconino's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Mesquite, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Coconino will face off against Bradshaw Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Dylan Callado and Kylin Jackson. Mesquite does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
