Softball Game Preview: Granger Lancers vs. Hunter Wolverines

Granger hasn't had much luck against Hunter recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Lancers will challenge the Wolverines at 3:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Granger and Hillcrest, and Hillcrest kept the tradition alive. The Lancers fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 6-5 on Monday.

Mia Hernandez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Haylie Harper, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hunter fell victim to Mountain Ridge and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Sentinels, falling 10-0. That's two games in a row now that the Wolverines have lost by exactly ten runs.

Hunter saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was KIANA PAUNI, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that PAUNI hit this season.

Granger's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Hunter, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Granger hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Hunter struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Granger couldn't quite finish off Hunter when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
