Basketball Recap: Anthony Ortiz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Baker over Mojave

If Baker was feeling good fresh off their 42-15 takedown of Lee Vining last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Baker Braves fell 40-32 to the Mojave Mustangs on Wednesday. The Braves have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Several Braves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anthony Ortiz, who posted 11 points and four steals. That was a full 34.4% of Baker's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Amador, who had eight points and eight boards.

Baker's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Mojave, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-8.

Baker will square off against Big Pine at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mojave, they will take on Trona at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mojave is on a four-game streak of home losses, Trona a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change.
