Softball Recap: Sandia Falls Short Against Ranked Rio Rancho

Sandia faced Rio Rancho in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Sandia came up short against Rio Rancho, falling 9-2. The Matadors were not able to make up for their defeat to the Rams from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Sandia saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faith Wersonick, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

This is the second loss in a row for Sandia and nudges their season record down to 4-5. As for Rio Rancho, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandia will face off against Kirtland Central at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rio Rancho, they will challenge Robertson at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday.
