Baseball Recap: Cherokee Falls Short Against Ranked Haddonfield

Cherokee faced Haddonfield in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Chiefs fell 5-2 to the Bulldawgs. The Chiefs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldawgs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Brett Gable spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Alex Odud was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Cherokee fell to 19-1. As for Haddonfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4-1 record this season.

Cherokee didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-1 win against Gloucester Catholic on the 10th. As for Haddonfield, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-3 victory against St. Augustine Prep on the 10th.
