Baseball Recap: Desert Sunrise Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cortez

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Desert Sunrise). They were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over the Cortez Colts on Wednesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Golden Hawks, who have now won three contests in a row.

Isaac Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Desert Sunrise is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4-1 otherwise. Sanchez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Desert Sunrise got a massive performance out of Aaron Sanchez, who scored three runs and stole six bases while going 1-for-1. Alejandro Porras was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Desert Sunrise hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cortez struck out 12 times.

The win got Desert Sunrise back to even at 5-5-1. As for Cortez, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13-1 record this season.

Desert Sunrise will be playing at home against Tempe at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cortez, they will venture away from home to face off against Westview at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Colts are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
