Basketball Game Preview: Warren County Eagles vs. Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars

The Warren County Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Rocky Mount Prep Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warren County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.

Last Friday, Warren County opened the new year with a less-than-successful 51-43 loss to Northampton County. The Eagles have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Warren County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kamari Nicholson almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nicholson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Khalil Townsend, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Warren County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Prep can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 75-66 win over KIPP P.

Rocky Mount Prep's win came from a few key players Warren County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaylan Barfield, who posted 19 points. Another player making a difference was Rashyd Johnson, who put up 17 points.

Rocky Mount Prep's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-6. As for Warren County, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-5.

Warren County came out on top in a nail-biter against Rocky Mount Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 49-46. Will Warren County repeat their success, or does Rocky Mount Prep have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
