Softball Recap: Murphy Takes a Loss

Murphy and Swain County squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Murphy had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Maroon Devils by a score of 2-1. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Maroon Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Paisley Johnson spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Murphy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Laney, who went 2-for-4 with one run.

Murphy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Swain County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.

Murphy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Swain County, they will square off against Roxboro Community on Friday. The Maroon Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season.
