Softball Recap: Deep Creek Hornets vs. Western Branch Bruins
Deep Creek lost against Western Branch back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Deep Creek took a 13-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of Western Branch. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lilly B was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and nine unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Nina Goebel and Kayleigh Rigdon did some serious damage despite the final result: Goebel scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Rigdon scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Hailey Lack, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Deep Creek kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Deep Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Western Branch, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0.
