Recap: Ridgecroft Rams vs. Lawrence Academy Warriors
The Ridgecroft Rams put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Lawrence Academy with a 52-46 victory. Given Ridgecroft's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Lawrence Academy is ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ridgecroft's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hannah Slaughter led the charge by scoring 19 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Slaughter, who scored nine points along with seven assists and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Lawrence Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Samantha Hughson. Despite the final result, she scored 13 points along with seven steals. Hughson hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Ellie Farmer was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Lawrence Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridgecroft only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Ridgecroft pushed their record up to 13-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Lawrence Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ridgecroft will take on Albemarle School at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Albemarle School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Monday. As for Lawrence Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Pungo Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pungo Christian Academy is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
