Basketball Recap: Lorenzo Bustamante's Big Game Can't Quite Lead the Vanguard School over Wray

The Vanguard School and Wray squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but The Vanguard School had to settle for second. They took a 59-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wray Eagles. The Coursers have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

The Vanguard School's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lorenzo Bustamante, who posted 26 points. JJ Wetters was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Aaron Tena continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wray, shooting 6-for-8 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double with 22 points and 13 boards. Tena is becoming a predictor of Wray's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 4-2 (and 6-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Bryson Lewis, who had ten points.

The Vanguard School's loss dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Wray, their record now sits at 10-14.

The Vanguard School does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wray, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-56 defeat against SkyView Academy on the 8th.
