Baseball Recap: Springport's Undefeated Season over After Six Games

Springport has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.33 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They fell just short of the Addison Panthers by a score of 12-10. The loss was the Spartans' first of the season.

Marshall Shoemaker was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Shoemaker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Drew Sanford and Gavin Lightner stepped up to the plate in a big way. Sanford went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Lightner went 2-for-3 with three runs. That run marked the first that Sanford has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bo Lightner, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Having lost for the first time this season, Springport fell to 5-1. As for Addison, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-7.

Coming up, Springport will host Union City at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Addison, they will take on Homer at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
