Softball Recap: Weyauwega-Fremont Drops Highest Score of Season Against Berlin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Weyauwega-Fremont). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Berlin Indians a 12-0 shutout on Friday. The Warhawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 18, 2024 (when they won 12-0).

Alyson Baehnman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Witkowski, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia McCoy, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Weyauwega-Fremont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Weyauwega-Fremont and bumps their season record up to 3-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Berlin, they dropped their record down to 1-11 with the loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Weyauwega-Fremont will face off against Iola-Scandinavia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Berlin, they will challenge Omro at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Indians are facing the Foxes at the right time seeing as the Foxes are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
