Baseball Recap: Poston Butte Victorious

While Poston Butte's win against Coconino wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Broncos narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Panthers 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Broncos have posted since March 11th.

Damian Serrano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Matthew Brizuela, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Isael Aguilera was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

The victory made it two in a row for Poston Butte and bumps their season record up to 7-13. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Coconino, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-12-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poston Butte will welcome ALA - Queen Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season. As for Coconino, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bradshaw Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
