Basketball Game Preview: Glenvar Highlanders vs. Alleghany Cougars

The Glenvar Highlanders will take on the Alleghany Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Glenvar is looking for their season's first victory.

Last Thursday, Glenvar took a blow against Floyd County, falling 72-16.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alleghany). They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Carroll County 66-31. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Cavaliers are ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alleghany is also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Glenvar, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Glenvar took a serious blow against Alleghany in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 46-13. Can Glenvar avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
