Softball Recap: Century Has No Trouble Against South Salem

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South Medford, Century was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the South Salem Saxons 20-2. With that victory, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

Michelle Katke made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Katke was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. That hit was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ava Durtschi was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Hailey Kinney, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Century always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Salem only posted an OBP of .217.

The win got Century back to even at 2-2. As for South Salem, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Century has already played their next contest, a 4-1 defeat against Roseburg on the 25th. As for South Salem, they will welcome Newberg at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
