Basketball Recap: Waconia Comes Up Short

On Saturday, the Waconia Wildcats had to suffer through a 93-51 loss at the hands of the Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Raiders are ranked third).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cretin-Derham Hall to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joe Mitchell, who went 6 of 10 en route to 15 points along with seven assists and seven steals. Mitchell has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Ahneman, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Waconia has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Cretin-Derham Hall, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waconia will challenge Prior Lake at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Cretin-Derham Hall, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Totino-Grace at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Totino-Grace knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Cretin-Derham Hall likes a good challenge.
