William Carver and Devin Sanders Jr secure win for Melrose

Recap: Melrose Golden Wildcats vs. Trezevant Bears

The Melrose Golden Wildcats won the last time they faced the Trezevant Bears, and things went their way on Friday too. Melrose secured a 52-47 W over Trezevant. Given Melrose's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Trezevant is ranked 277th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Melrose to victory were William Carver and Devin Sanders Jr. Carver scored nine points along with five assists and four steals, while Sanders Jr dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Sanders Jr is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Joe Williams, who scored four points along with six rebounds.

Melrose is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Trezevant, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Melrose will challenge Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hamilton has insisted on making their lastfour contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-2 during that stretch of close contests. As for Trezevant, they will head out on the road to face off against Crosstown at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Crosstown is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
