Baseball Game Preview: Kankakee Valley Kougars vs. Lowell Red Devils

For the second straight game, Kankakee Valley will face off against Lowell. The Kougars will challenge the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kankakee Valley has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Kankakee Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lowell on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Red Devils by a score of 13-12. While the Kougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Red Devils 5-1 in the first period.

For Lowell's part, Michael Reidenga looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Camden Mikulich was incredible, getting on base in five of his seven plate appearances with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. He also got three hits, which is notable because Lowell is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Zak Scharnke, who got on base in three of his seven plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Lowell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive games.

Kankakee Valley now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Lowell, their record now sits at 11-9.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Kankakee Valley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lowell struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
