Softball Preview: D'Evelyn Jaguars vs. Golden Demons
The D'Evelyn Jaguars will challenge the Golden Demons at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.
Last Monday, D'Evelyn made easy work of Green Mountain and carried off a 19-4 win. That looming 19-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Jaguars yet this season.
Tess Miller was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Aubrey Hummel-Giddens was incredible, going 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBI, and five RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in batting average. Adrianna Riddle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 innings per game.
On the hitting side, Katie Welte was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Wiegand, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
D'Evelyn is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. As for Golden, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
