Basketball Recap: Haines City Comes Up Short

Haines City won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They came up short against the Apopka Blue Darters, falling 77-54. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 291st, while the Blue Darters are ranked 53rd).

When it comes to explaining why Haines City lost, don't look at Cole Williams. Despite the final result, he went 12 for 19 en route to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Williams a new career-high in points. Gianni Foster also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Haines City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Apopka, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Haines City will welcome Sebring at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Haines City is facing Sebring at the right time seeing as Sebring is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Apopka has already played their next contest (against University), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
