Recap: St. Georges Tech Hawks vs. Smyrna Eagles
On Friday, the St. Georges Tech Hawks faced the Smyrna Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Georges Tech took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Smyrna. St. Georges Tech just can't catch a break and has now endured five losses in a row.
Despite the loss, St. Georges Tech still got an impressive performance from Camron Montgomery, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Jayson Askins-Brooks also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
St. Georges Tech has yet to win a contest on the road this season, leaving them with a 2-7 record. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Salesianum and 7-2 Sussex Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.9% over those games). As for Smyrna, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
St. Georges Tech will be playing at home against Cape Henlopen at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Delaware (Cape Henlopen is ranked eighth, while St. Georges Tech is ranked 15th). As for Smyrna, they will head out on the road to face off against Sussex Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sussex Central is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
